D-Star RPT1/RPT2 Access - 20/02/2008
Hi all,
With the current lift conditions it has really become apparent that the Icom repeaters have no access controls on them. I can work any repeater (on a given frequency) using any RPT1 and RPT2 values. This being the case what is the use of these if the system in not on the gateway and does anyone agree that the repeater should only 'repeat' a station with the correct values? An real example is me chatting on GB7PI but being heard through GB7FK and GB7MI also. At least in a analogue CTCSS can be employed to solve such issues.
I know in the future we might not have the same issue when we all get our own frequencies but there will be a time in the future (I hope) when there will be many D-Star repeaters in the UK where this might become an issue again.
Please share your thoughts on this with me.

After some comments from other users and some further testing on GB7PI it appears the problem stems from the menu setting DIGITAL RPT SET being ON. This setting allows the radio to overwrite the RPT1 and RPT2 values based on responses (idents) from the D-Star repeater. Switching this option OFF means the RPT1 and RPT2 values shouldn't be overwritten. I'm going to run with this setting OFF (defualt) from now on so I have control of the RPT1 and RPT2 values.
Gavin.
